Argentina

Argentina

Argentina is the largest wine producer in South America and the 5th largest in the world with over 1.2 million litres produced. Argentine winemakers have traditionally been more interested in quantity than quality and the country consumes 90% of the wine it produces.

With the success of its neighbouring rival, Chile, and the desire to increase exports, significant advances were made in quality and Argentine wines started being exported during the 1990's.

Still gaining in popularity, there are many different grape varieties cultivated in Argentina. Using European grape varieties, Argentina has had huge international successes in red wines with Tempranillo (Spain), Sangiovese (Italy) and Syrah (France). However, it is its home grown varieties that have put the country firmly on the wine map with some of the best Malbec wines in the world.

On the whites, Torrontes is the most typically Argentine grape, a member of the Malvasia group that makes highly aromatic white wines.
Heritage Wine Company is proud to be working in partnership with two Mendoza based family - owned wineries to provide an exciting range of well priced wines, all of which offer something quite different from the better known Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay styles.
