Chile
The Chilean wine industry has made remarkable strides in the last ten years, and offers some of the best value-for-money wines around today.
It is in Chile that you have the near perfect climate for wine-growing. Vineyards are flanked by the sheltering peaks of the Andes on one side and bordered by a cooling ocean on the other which means that it is possible to find the ideal combination of cool temperatures, plenty of sunshine and abundant water from melting snow. Some of the wonderful variety of Chilean wines produced from the narrow central valleys spanning from north of Santiago to the southern region of Bio Bio include Riesling, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and others.
The widely popular Cabernet Sauvignon typically produces fresh, blackcurranty smooth wines which are irresistibly appealing. For the whites, light, fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blancs are synonymous with Chile although increasingly soft Chardonnays and ripe Semillon wines are fruity alternatives.
Next time you are serving wine, either alone or with food, try one of our fantastic wines from Chile, and remember to toast: 'Salud, amor y dinero, y tiempo para gustarlos' (Health, love and money, and time to enjoy them!)
