Chenin Blanc 2010 – Cape Crown, Swartland, South Africa

South African White Chenin Blanc 2010 – Cape Crown, Swartland, South Africa

A typical Chenin Blanc with ripe tropical fruit aromas complemented by hints of lemon and with a lovely balance of fruit and acidity.

Hugely popular and easily quaffable. The plentiful fruit can be ideal for drinkers looking for wine of a more ’off dry’ character.

Swartland winery, situated just outside Malmesbury, was founded by 15 member farmers in 1948. Today, the co-operative has 100 members with an area of 3100 hectares under vine, crushing approximately 25,000 tonnes of grapes each harvest.

The Swartland region (Swartland meaning black soil) is an open, undulating area north of the Cape with fertile soil fanned by cool Atlantic breezes (the coast is only 30km away). As much as 85% of the land farmed by Swartland members if planted with bush vines, giving an average low yield of 7 tonnes per hectare. Grape selection is therefore not only by hand but by nature’s way.

The result is smaller berries with extremely good fruit concentration, enabling the production of intense and delicious single varietal wines of exceptional high quality.
