Merlot 2007 – Powers, Columbia Valley, Washington State
The aromas of ripe plum, blackcurrant, and rich spices are balanced with touch of sweet oak and vanilla. Flavours of blackberry, currant, and black cherry dominate the surprisingly full mouth feel, with sweet vanilla as a compliment.
The long, firm, dry finish reflects shades of these same flavours.
Father and son, Bill and Greg Powers established Badger Moutain Vineyard in 1982. Badger Mountain vineyards have exceptional capacity for quality wines. Based on the south facing slopes of Badger Mountain, in the finest viticultural area in Washington State, Columbia Valley, the 80-acre vineyard also has a unique microclimate and soil that is ideal for the production of organic wines.
During 1992, Bill Powers began production of the Powers label. Powers Winery label allows for the production of high quality wines made from varietals growing in different terroirs around the Columbia Valley.
Although Powers produce great white wines, their reputation lies in their reds, as a result on their own emphasis on producing top quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Powers wines have been recognised by such notables as the Wine Spectator, which has referred to the wine as a “Rising Star”, and recently names Powers Winery as one of the “50 Greats Cabernet Producers”
