Merlot 2008 - Grey Rock, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

New Zealand Red Merlot 2008 - Grey Rock, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

Great colour and aromas of plum and dark berryfruit are typical of Hawke’s Bay Merlot. Silky tannins give it a soft finish for early drinkability and the depth of fruit gives it the ability to cellar for 4-5 years.

Greyrock’s Hawke’s Bay wines are sourced from two vineyard sites situated on river gravel soils, each of which has slightly different climatic characteristics suited to different grape varieties and wine styles. The warm, free draining vineyards around the winery are planted on the gravel deposits of an old river valley and provide the Merlot used in Greyrock’s Bordeaux style blended red wines.

Greyrock is focused on the production of fine wine and maintain the highest standard in environmentally sustainable viticultural and winemaking practices. This contributes to the production of handcrafted wines which reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyard regions.

Greyrock wines are made at a state-of-the-art Hawke’s Bay winemaking facility which is designed to crush over 1500 tonnes of grapes utilising both high-tech and traditional winemaking methods. Gentle air-bag presses and temperature controlled tanks give precise control of grape juice quality, while open top red wine fermenters and cool barrel cellars provide for more time-honoured techniques. Chief Winemaker Grant Edmonds leads a team of Winemakers with vintage experience in many of the world’s major wine regions. They are passionate about the ability of Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough to produce world class wines.
